Dinner 4/1/2013: Rincon Criollo, 40-09 Junction Boulevard, Corona, NY
Ropa vieja with fried sweet plantains, coconut caramel flan.
Our favorite Cuban restaurant that we’ve tried so far in the city. The ropa vieja here is one of the best we’ve had - the most tender shredded beef doused in tomato sauce - while the fried sweet plantains are hands down the best, with its perfectly fried texture and its sweet, sweet insides. Topped off dinner with a subtly sweet coconut flan. 5/5 stars, $13.95 ropa vieja, $2.50 flan de coco.
